The XXL Freshman Class of 2021 includes many rappers and singers from different walks of life. The “Freshman List” is supposed to include the best artists in hip hop. Here is this year’s list of freshmen: Morray, Iann Dior, Lakeyah, DDG, 42 Dugg, Rubi Rose, Blxst, Pooh Shiesty, Toosii, Coi Leray, and Flo Milli. Morray (Fayetteville, NC) released his mixtape “Street Sermons” with songs, including: “Quicksand”, “Switched Up”, and “Mistakes”. Morray was also featured on J. Cole’s most recent album, The Off Season, on the song “My Life” with 21 Savage. Iann Dior (Corpus Christi, TX) got a lot of eyes on him after being featured on “Mood” by last year’s XXL Freshman 24KGoldn. Iann Dior also released the mixtape “I’m Gone”, including: “Sick and Tired” (feat. Machine Gun Kelly and Travis Barker), “Prospect” (feat. Lil Baby), and “Good Day”. Lakeyah is one of the newest signees to Quality Control Music (which also boasts Lil Baby, City Girls, and Migos). Lakeyah (Milwaukee, WI/Atlanta, GA) recently released her “Time’s Up” mixtape, including: “Female Goat” (feat. City Girls) and “Big Flexher (feat. 42 Dugg). She’s also known for her single: “Hear My Cry”. DDG (Pontiac, MI) is a popular YouTuber who followed his passions to become a rapper. His song “Moonwalking in Calabasas (remix)” (feat. Blueface) blew up thanks in part to his 2 million YouTube subscribers. DDG also released a mixtape “Die 4 Respect” with popular producer OG Parker. DDG also has songs “Arguments” and “Givenchy”. 42 Dugg (Detroit, MI) got a huge following after his hit song “We Paid” (feat. Lil Baby) blew up. He recently released a mixtape titled “Free Dem Boyz”, including “Maybach” (feat. Future), where Future took shots at Lori and Steve Harvey. 42 Dugg is also known for songs “Grace” (feat. Lil Baby) and “You Da One” (feat. Yo Gotti). Rubi Rose (Atlanta, GA) has made a splash with her hit “Big Mouth” and being involved with a relationship with another XXL Freshman DDG. Rubi Rose also collaborated with NLE Choppa and Yella Beezy on “Hit Yo Dance”, and recently released a mixtape titled “For the Streets”, including: “He In His Feelings”. Blxst (Los Angeles, CA) has been an incredible hook singer for West Coast artists, such as Mozzy and YG, including songs like: “I Ain’t Perfect” and “Perfect Timing”. Blxst has his own hits with “Chosen” (feat. Ty Dolla $ign and Tyga) and “Slip N Slide” (feat. 1TakeJay). Pooh Shiesty (Memphis, TN) blew up after his hit song with Lil Durk “Back in Blood” and his recent “Shiesty Season” mixtape. Shiesty also followed that up with “Beatbox 2” with buzzing artist SPOTEMGOTTEM. Pooh Shiesty also has a song with Lil Baby and Big30 titled “Monday to Sunday”. Toosii (Raleigh, NC) is a hip-hop crooner who recently released “Thank You for Believing” and songs like “Love Cycle” (feat. Summer Walker), “Reminiscing” and “5 Stars”. After being ridiculed on stage recently, Coi Leray bounced back and joins the ranks of XXL Freshman. Coi Leray boasts songs with Lil Durk, Pooh Shiesty, and Gunna, with “No More Parties (remix)”, “Big Purr”, and “Slide”. She’s also releasing a mixtape “At The Top” on June 25th. Flo Milli is a huge hit right now with songs like “May I”, “Weak”, and “In The Party”. Flo Milli made a huge splash with her “Ho, Why Is You Here?” mixtape.
